We are excited to shine the employee spotlight on Jonathan Chase, our new Development & Operations Engineer who’s already making a significant impact. I got the chance to interview him and dive into some of his experiences and insights so far at C2IT, and I’m thrilled to share them, so let’s get into it!
How has it been working at C2IT so far?
I’ve loved it, and I’m not exaggerating. My last long-term position lasted almost three years, and I enjoyed working there, but coming here has been quite a positive experience. It’s very busy, but it’s not overly stressful, which is really good. And I’ve liked everybody that I’ve met so far, which I can’t say that about any other place I’ve ever been in my life. I’m digging the work I’m doing, so yeah, I’m enjoying it a great deal. It’s my first time in a company this small, and that’s been an interesting experience, too.
What are you most excited to work on?
My main role, development and operations. I’ve done many DevOps stuff before like maintenance, provisioning with Azure, and maintaining of pipelines, but I haven’t been a dedicated DevOps engineer until now, so it has been a learning experience and a very positive experience. I feel deeply that you don’t grow in your comfort zone, and I feel that I’ve been growing a great deal. I’m helping with processes, workflows, methodology, and code quality, so my previous experience with larger organizations has put me in a unique position to be able to do that.
How is it having 2 other Jons in the office?
Just a little weird. They’re not just Jons, they’re Jon C’s, so it was decided very early on that I should be a Jonathan to set me apart. Makes it easier to discern who we’re talking about, so that works for me, but it has been funny. Many times already somebody has said “Hey, Jon” and I perk up to realize it’s not to me.
What do you think are some future possibilities for C2IT’s custom development services?
The good thing about what we do is that we do whatever is needed. Whatever is asked, we find a way to fulfill it. I think as we get more people, we’re going to be able to do that for more organizations. And the more clients we get, the more people we can get, and so on. I would not be surprised to see this company just kind of explode in size. We do good work and our customers like us, and you know that’s the path to a fruitful future. I’m very excited. Even though the company’s been around for a while, I still kind of feel like I’m getting in on the ground floor of something that could be big, and that’s exciting.
What have you recently been enjoying outside of work?
Gosh, gardening, of course. And as I mentioned in my website bio, I’m learning slowly to be an amateur blacksmith. Right now, I’m a very bad blacksmith, but you know, I made a lantern holder recently. There also was a metal piece on some of our cabinetry that broke, and I made a replacement part. It’s ugly as sin, but it’s not something that you have to look at because it’s underneath the hinge. Also, Gen Con just happened, and gaming stuff is a big deal for me. Gen Con is like Christmas every year. I also like bad horror movies, and there’s a drive-in outside of Shelbyville that does weekends of long movies and gets more absurd the later that it gets. It’s pretty awesome. I’m the guy who will keep Mystery Science Theater 3000 running in the background while I’m working all around the house.
What’s a fun fact about you that your new colleagues might not know?
I have a powerful sense of smell, and it used to be much stronger when I was younger. I used to be able to identify certain kinds of glass by their scent.
What a great opportunity it was to hear Jonathan share his experiences. You’d love to get to know him too, so don’t be afraid to reach out and connect with him! We look forward to many positive experiences with him here at C2IT.
