This summer, our team of 16 found a couple of great opportunities to step away from our desks and enjoy some time together outside the office.
First up, on July 22, the whole team headed downtown for an afternoon at Victory Field to watch the Indianapolis Indians. Between the win, the perfect weather, and no shortage of ballpark food that nobody’s diet would approve of, it was a relaxed, no-agenda kind of day. Sometimes the best team building doesn’t look like team building at all. It’s just a group of coworkers sitting together in the sun, cheering for the same team, and talking about anything other than work. Plus, eating ice cream out of a helmet never hurts.
Then on August 6, C2IT showed up at the Plainfield Chamber Golf Outing at Deer Creek Golf Course, this time in two ways. Some of the team played the course together, enjoying a good round and some friendly competition. Meanwhile, others staffed a C2IT tent at hole 11, where we set up a Velcro golf ball chipping game, handed out giveaways and swag, challenged folks to knock a ball onto the green with a softball bat, and kept folks cool with popsicles and beverages on a warm afternoon. It turned out to be a great way to connect with other local businesses and put some smiling faces to the C2IT name.
Events like these matter more than they might seem. It’s easy for a growing company to get heads-down in projects and deadlines, but a ballgame and a golf outing gave our team a chance to slow down, laugh together, and remember that we like each other outside of Teams messages and status updates. Whether it was cheering from the stands or manning the popsicle cooler, everyone came away with a little more connection to the people they work alongside every day.
