I recently celebrated my one-year workaversary at C2IT, and it has been an amazing year. When I was initially brought on as a contractor, I learned pretty quickly that this was a place where I had wanted to work for a long time. By the time I was hired permanently in February, I was completely sold on C2IT as a long-term place of employment where I could learn and grow in my career.
When I first interviewed for the job, I was impressed at how well stress levels were managed among the developers. While the devs were certainly quite busy (and remain so to this day), the stress was under control. As I spent more time here, I realized that this was a product of the quality of personalities involved in the work, and how they interrelated with one another.
Since my time here, I have helped to not only get DevOps in good shape, pipelines fixed and streamlined, and the DAB data migration tool optimized, but I have also helped to bring a better approach into play for the development process. I led the dev team into a place where they had a more well-documented set of standards in a team agreement that stands to this day, while also introducing an iterative approach so that the team adapts to changes in the business.
Initially, I thought I would do primarily .NET development. However, it was my background in Azure DevOps that ended up being used and brought to greater heights. This surprised me, since I had never worked as a strictly DevOps engineer in the past. So, when I was brought on as the only DevOps engineer in the enterprise, I experienced a baptism of fire that I was bracing for with some anxiety.
However, Chet and the rest of the business were very patient during these growing pains, which gave me the room and the freedom to learn and gather experience at a pace that allowed for me to grow into the role quite solidly. I am constantly doing things that would have surprised me a year ago. The anxiety melted away, giving me a confidence in my role at C2IT which has encouraged me to continue to grow. I often say that growth does not happen in your comfort zone, but this time with C2IT has shown me that being outside of your comfort zone is not required to be painful.
To anyone who is considering a role at C2IT Consulting: Believe the hype. This has been a wonderful place to work. While my professional life has been solid and a blessing, my personal life has taken some serious hits, not the least of which was the passing of my very best friend just a month and a half after I started. During that painful time, my colleagues here were patient, understanding, and accommodating when they didn’t have to be. I was, at that time, still a temporary addition to C2IT, and they showed me a grace that I have never seen before in any other place of employment. I will forever be grateful and thankful for that.
