As a senior in college, I was on the prowl for internships in the tech field to build up some experience and see what the field was like first hand. I applied for internships left and right for months with little to no responses until I applied here at C2IT Consulting. Within days of submitting my application, I had an interview. Soon after, I had another interview, and before I knew it, I had myself an internship.
Now that I’m a full-time member of the C2IT team, I wanted to look back and share a little bit about my experiences as an intern and the transition to full-time.
Jesse The Student
During my last semester of college, I worked here at C2IT part time five days a week. I realized halfway through the semester that I took on more hours than most would for their internship as a full-time student, but I found the experience to be fulfilling.
There were times when juggling work and school was an arduous task. Deadlines approached quickly, my schedule was fuller than ever, and I found it all too easy to pursue free time rather than do my homework. With some self-discipline, all-nighters, and a little bit of luck, I pulled myself together and made it to the light at the end of the tunnel: graduation.
Jesse The Intern
My integration into the C2IT team as an intern was a smooth one. Right away I was paired up with Megan to learn the day-to-day tasks that came with the job, and I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor. I was quickly able to take over website maintenance and content updates for many of our clients’ websites.
All of the sites we care for are WordPress sites, and up until I started my internship, I had no exposure to sites like them. That was one of my main draws to C2IT when I was applying. Since WordPress wasn’t in my college curriculum, I wanted to add it to my skillset through the learning experiences of an internship. I was (and still am) figuring out new things about WordPress all the time, so the experience has more than paid off.
Though I spent most of my time learning from Megan, there were ample opportunities to meet and learn about the rest of the C2IT team. From company outings to team-building activities, every face here became a familiar and welcome one. I’ve never once felt like I was anything less than my coworkers.
Jesse The Team Member
Nearing the end of my internship, I was extended an offer to stay on as a full-time team member. I was hoping from the beginning that any internship I found would lead to a full-time offer, and it did just that. Having a job right out of college allows me to move forward into the next stage of my life.
Now that I am a full-time team member, more interesting projects are starting to land on my plate. The challenge is daunting, but welcome nonetheless. I’m ready to put my skills to work, and I couldn’t have found a better place to start.
