If you’re like me, you’ve probably seen the graphic below far too many times and wondered… “Why not?” When was the last time you saw Microsoft give away Windows for FREE?
Truth be told, Windows 10 is in your future, like it or not. Microsoft has bet a lot on this new release, and it’s around to stay. Your next computer will likely come with it pre-installed, and if you’ve had to deal with any headaches of Windows 8, you’ll probably find yourself much relieved with the ease of installing, using, and working with this newest version of Windows.
But the question remains… Is it time yet? Should I upgrade now, while it’s free, during this “short time” Microsoft is offering it?
There’s rarely a one-size-fits-all answer
To answer the question above, “is it time to upgrade to Windows 10,” we have to take a number of things into consideration. Is your hardware capable enough for the upgrade? Will your network and server smoothly accept the change? Will the critical software you use to do your work every day still work? And perhaps one far-to-often neglected question… what can go wrong?
Downtime is something we all know far too well… and often, we despise it. When something that’s “supposed” to take an hour takes 2, and then 4, and then 8… we go crazy. The thing with upgrading an operating system is that there are always unknowns, and so unless there’s a strong case to upgrade, we’re encouraging our clients to wait, think it through with us, and then strategically implement Windows 10 into their environment.
